Always verify agent's information before sending your query. Verify the agent's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the agent is still open to queries.
Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for agent information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).
Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the agent's website.
And NEVER give money to an "agent".

I really do prefer agents who take the time to send a rejection letter. I know many agents are just too busy to do this, however, it is nice to at least know it is a NO.
Also one of the better form rejection letters. Put my first name in and the stock standard rejection is:
Many thanks for your kind words and for sending us this proposal, which I read with interest. I considered it carefully but I’m afraid on balance it just doesn’t quite grab my imagination in the way that it must for me to offer to represent you. So I must follow my instinct and pass on this occasion. I’m sorry to be so disappointing, but thanks for thinking of us. Of course this is a totally subjective judgement, so do try other agents and I wish you every success.
Kind regards
Robin
