It's pretty much the worst when you get so focused on including all the big-picture details and then forget to fill in the agent's name.

Or maybe I'm the only one who's ever done this...

I serious botched the spelling of an agent's name (typo) once.

She corrected the spelling in her rejection letter.  embarrassed2

I accidentally called one of my dream agents by the wrong name. I figured this out like two seconds after I sent it, then corrected the query and emailed it again. And she requested a full!

I did send a dear agent by accident too. His sub requirements were a tad complicated and I was concentrating on that. I realized this like...two seconds after I sent it. I got rejected anyways

Thankfully I haven't done that. However, in my default letter I have saved, I have certain areas bolded that change based on the agent. So far this has managed to save me from embarrassment because checking formatting before C&Ping from a word document is a life saver!  Yes

Well, I've accidentally spelled the agent's name wrong. I put the wrong agent's name in the Dear part. I used the word gaudy to describe a scary creature, not realizing what the actual word meant. This list could probably go on and on, lol.

I queried JK Rowling's agent once, spelled 'guidelines' wrong, panicked and then called the office to ask if they could delete the email : P

I've sent several queries where I forgot to remove the "formatting" before pasting it into an email. I didn't realize it, but when the agent gets it, it's in choppy little blocks of nearly unreadable text. Rejections all around on those. Luckily, it was only two or three.

It's so funny. I was reading this thread yesterday and saying, "Make sure you don't do that!"

Usually, I'm really good about it. Even if the queries are sent to a generic "queries" or "submissions" at blah blah blah dot com, I still look at the agent's bios so I know which one to address.

Yesterday, I queried the Carolyn Jenks agency, thought I had put in a query to a particular agent, got a partial request a few hours later, then went back in and saw that my query started with, "Dear Agent".

Who'd have thought my first request came from a "Dear Agent"??  embarrassed
