Through a few years of trial and error, I finally found a national networking group with local chapters that I really like. One of the benefits was a national conference in my town - Orlando - with a special appearance by Star Jones. After her presentation, there was an open mike for questions from the audience. I stepped up, asked my question, told her about my book ( which I had strategically in hand) and said I would love to give it to her as a gift. She was extremely enthusiatic and said, "I've been looking for something fun and saucy to read on the plane!"  That was filmed for national television. As if that wasn't enough to make me very happy, I was called by her producer the next day and asked to do a sit down interview with her for a national program which was filmed yesterday. It was awesome.

So, come what may, like Star Jones or hate her, she has a huge following and since my target audience is women, I'm feeling pretty good about this. Can I call her "my Oprah"?

So, independent authors, find an opportunity to get close to a celeb and always have a copy of your book handy. You NEVER know!

WOW! That's fantastic! I am so proud of you--and you deserve nothing less than star treatment.

(I half expected to read something about a mayonaise jar in hand but that would be tooooooo saucy.  wink2)

That's right, you can't start right in with the mayonaisse jar.  You have to romance 'em a little first before you can take it to that level.
