All's fair in love and war & this is revolution

WWW
« on: August 10, 2011, 12:23:02 PM »

I'm currently looking at submitting a manuscript to a small publisher, and their submission requirements say that they'd like a file containing "ideas for promotions" attached to the query email. My n00b question is basically... what exactly should be on here? Should I be elaborating on connexions with local bookstores, a background in print/web design, and a presence on several different social networking/media platforms? Or are they looking for something different? Also, how should this file be formatted?

Any tips/pointers would be greatly appreciated! Grin

my publisher asked for the same thing. Basically they want to know if you have a blog or a website. Do you have a twitter account or a facebook account? How active are you on those sites? Are you willing to approach bookstores to do signings? Would you set up book blog tours etc. They want to know if you understand that there is a ton of marketing work to do for your book and if you understand that you will be doing most of it.
Don't worry. They don't want like a formal business proposal. Just the stuff I mentioned above.
Good luck!!!

Thanks so much! I sent off the email yesterday, and (thankfully) it was mostly along the lines that you mentioned. So now... to wait. Grin

I took a hundred dollar course through my writers group on promotional basics. Alison just gave you the same low-down for free.
