Hey everybody! Ok, I got the publishing contract for my first novel and I'm super excited. But I'm also super new to this. What do you guys think of this situation...
The publisher wanted some major revisions and said since we seemed to be on the same page, they would offer a contract with the assumption that I was going to do the rewrite. So I did it and sent them the manuscript on Oct 31, to which they sent in a "thank you" on November 2nd. I haven't heard a thing back from them since. I know it hasn't been a horribly long time, but they have always been lightning quick. (ONE day after I submitted my full the first time, they responded with a detailed letter about my novel and where it needed work.)
I already sent a short email a week after submitting the revisions to follow up and ask what the next step was, but they still haven't responded. I'm getting worried now. I know they are probably going through the red pen process before they return it to me for editing, but part of me is worried that the revisions weren't good enough and they're considering rescinding the offer.
Do you guys think I should send another follow up email in case the first was lost, or leave it alone for a little longer? If so, how long?

Do you have an agent? If so, convey your concerns to her and she should do the follow up for you if she thinks a nudge is in order. Every house is different and she'll probably know what's normal for this one.
If not, it hasn't been that long, really. I've learned that when I submit a revision or edits, to ask when I can expect to hear back. A month or two is not out of the ordinary. Now that your work has been acquired, you are in a queue along with their other authors. Maybe hang tight for a bit longer?
Best advice? Follow your instincts.
Yeah, I know. None of this was very helpful. Good luck. I'm excited for you.

Is the contract signed? If so, don't worry, they'll come back to you soon. If not, I suggest wait for two additional months, nudge again, saying that if you don't have an answer in the next week, you'll assume they are passing on it, and start query again.

Haha, thanks people! I looked at my calendar and realized that I'm freaking out over TWO weeks. MaryL, you and everybody else actually were helpful, because I was thinking a month was too long. But since you pointed out that it can take two months sometimes, I'm feeling better.
Yes, the contract is signed.
Again, I think the self-doubting demon was getting the best of me today. Thanks for the support!

Yay! Finally heard back! Like you guys said, they have other authors in the queue ahead of me. I had just been concerned that they had read it, but weren't that excited. They just haven't read through the revisions yet. Relieved. Thanks for the support!

I wish I could capture a Patience Fairy and hoarde her Pixie Patience Dust. As a writer, patience is one thing I CAN'T dream up. Waiting=anxiety.

*hugs* If I had patience to send you, I would. I seem to have run out on my end, alas. And Ash? Isn't the time honoured phrase: "Lord grant me patience, AND I WANT IT RIGHT NOW?"

Haha, seriously... I definitely need a patience fairy. And I'm only Type A when it comes to my writing, so I don't really know how to handle it. But fortunately, they did get back to me. That negative part of me (the self conscious writer part) thought maybe the revisions weren't good enough and they just didn't know what to say. But it turns out, they just haven't had a chance to read it yet because there are more authors working with the editors ahead of me.

It's so hard to be in the middle of the queue -- even worse than at the end. In the middle, you just wait and hope and quiver. And worry. Chin up. Go write something. You don't have time to worry.
