I queried a publisher with my YA, then entered a pitch contest with the same publishing company a few weeks later. The editor I queried did NOT choose my pitch, but another one did, so I sent it to the other assuming this one was not interested. Today she sent a request asking for the full! What the (*^$^#%$@ do I say? I don't want to burn any bridges and I love some of the authors this company has and would love to be a part of them! What do I say???

Look, Kimmy, you been here longer than me an' all but you gotta understand, I'm the only one who ends up in situations like this. I would encourage a professional-tone email explaining the basis for your presumption. Buona fortuna, Sis.

Critiques should spur growth and improvement. Neither is painless.
I don't do personal attacks, defense/debate of work or grudges.
Remember, my comment's worth exactly what you paid for it. Use it, ignore it or PM-me and I'll remove it.
Buona fortuna!

Congratulations, Kimmy! That is great news!
Inform the asking editor that the prior editor already has a copy, you're super excited that there is so much interest, and ask her how you should proceed. She'll either back off, or else tell you that editor one is busy and to send it anyway.
The only way this would not turn out well is if you send the full without informing the editor of the existing submission. Editors hate it when that happens. If they both love the manuscript, then they have to drop it, since most publishing houses have a policy that they will not compete in house.

How does this sound?
Dear x,
Thank you for your interest in TRIANGLES. I'm sorry to say that after querying you, I entered the YAtopia pitch contest and received a full request from Ms. x. She is currently reviewing the manuscript. I'm very excited that my novel is generating such interest from x Publishing as I have been following the careers of some of your authors and would love to be a part of your company. I would be happy to send the manuscript to you if you feel it appropriate; otherwise, please advise me as to the best course of action at this point.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my work. I look forward to hearing from you.

I'd replace "Thank you for your interest in TRIANGLES. I'm sorry to say" with something more upbeat like "Before I send this, I feel it's my duty to inform you." Otherwise it looks like a rejection letter. Believe it or not, agents don't like them either.

F, if we're gonna be buds, you gotta stop talking to my Mrs. Just saying.
@Bodwen, that's aces, Sis. Can I get your help the next time I'm truthful with my Mrs. and everything DOESN'T turn out ok? I know how to square a debt.

So something like this?

Ok, I sent Bodwens email and look at the nice message I got back a few minutes later!
Hi Kimberly,
Thanks so much for updating me on the status of TRIANGLES. I hadn't realized that this was previously with X, so I'll just touch base with her on it, and one of the two of us will get back to you with our thoughts. Thank you for your interest!
All best,
