Marketing a book? Read BlurbIsAVerb.blogspot.com

Actually, I just reread my post and it sounded like "my fancy agent is well respected" but what I really meant was: an agent really can get your MS exactly the attention that you've always believed it deserves. And sometimes that's pretty darn intimidating! But also gratifying. When you read that feedback, at least you know you've had a fair shake.

Some pretty good information for future use should I decide to use an agent the second time around.

Re: submissions to publishers...

1) Read guidelines and only send them what they want.

     a) When the guidelines say ABSOLUTELY NO ROMANCE, do not call the manuscript a "paranormal romance". Especially when it's urban fantasy and NOT paranormal romance.

     b) Do not send vampire love stories to Guideposts. If unsure why, go back and read guidelines. AGAIN.

I think this topic was more in relation to what to expect when your agent submits your work to publishers, not really when/if you submit your work to publishers

Reading all this makes my heart quiver with anticipation and my stomach bubble with dread... Cry  sad  no
And I'm not even done writing my MS...

Thanks to all of you for the information and I'll refer back to it when I finish.

Actually, Ash once had an agent who made these mistakes on her behalf. I see that she's learned to chuckle about it, now that the book is out!  Smiley

As Norah Ephron wrote, "everything is copy."

Unfortunately, this posting was in regards to agent submission, Falen.

An author wouldn't make a mistake this big.

Agents are not perfect beings. Unfortunately, their mistakes stick with the authors for a long time.

I missed this when I posted...I learned to laugh it off a long time ago. I had to preserve what little sanity I possessed. :D

And I did it with the help of TG and Rosie and Mary and all the QT bunch--not just though personal support but also though the constant education I've gotten through the QT forum. I learned so much about publishing in all its forms and manifestations and glory so I KNEW my world wouldn't end just because I was unlucky enough to sign with the wrong agent.

It happened. It'll happen to someone else. I hope that writer knows I'll be here to help them persevere just as Sarah and the others helped me.

And, in the meantime, novice agents--read my original post!  wink2 I'm here to help you, too.
