Sounds cool. Can you clarify "Adult Fiction"? Is it literary? Mainstream? Erotica?

Critiques should spur growth and improvement. Neither is painless.
I don't do personal attacks, defense/debate of work or grudges.
Remember, my comment's worth exactly what you paid for it. Use it, ignore it or PM-me and I'll remove it.
Buona fortuna!

The author for the "Adult Fiction" category looks like she writes in a wide range of genres, but I'm still wondering if "adult" means everything other than paranormal, historical fiction, or romance...?
Also, it asks for the first 250 words; should we round up to the nearest sentence or paragraph? Or is it better to stop short of 250 than go over?
Thanks again! Glad to see it's not a speed contest!

No, it is not a speed contest! You have up until May 1st.
Thank you for the questions. I will make sure to clarify them on the blog, but for those of you here...
* It is better to stop short of 250, rather than rounding up. The members of the Utica Writers Club are busy, and one writer's paragraph might be a page long, as opposed to another writer's two sentence paragraph. To keep it fair for everyone, try to stop short of 250.
* Adult fiction does mean everything other than paranormal, historical fiction, young adult... Joan is very eclectic, so she wanted to cover adult fiction, since it does encompass a wide range. So, literary, mainstream, and erotica do fit, but personally, I suggest sending erotica to the romance category.

Very cool.
Does it have to be a completed manuscript? Since it's not agent-judged and the authors are only critiquing the first five pages, I'm assuming it doesn't have to be (though of course, a complete ms usually means the first five have already been polished and are not a rough draft--but not always!). If not, should that be specified in the query? Or should the query be written as if it's a complete ms being sent to an agent?
Thanks for putting this together!

You don't have to tell us if the story is completed or not. Since this isn't judged by agents, they won't be automatically requesting more. You just need to have the first five pages complete.
The draft doesn't even have to be polished. It should be, but it isn't a requirement. Maybe the author will help you steer your beginning in the right direction.
