I know he's a newer agent, but does anyone have any info on him? He'll be speaking at the Hampton Roads Writers conference in September. He lists speculative fiction as in his interests for the conference, but on QT science fiction is not on his list. Does he do only Fantasy, or is that simply an omission?

As far as speculative fiction, is that meant as a broader term to encompass anything not realistic?

I have him on my query list but i haven't queried him yet since i'm waiting on a response from Becky at the same agency.
Otherwise, i don't know too much about him. But i LOVE fineprint lit, so there's that anyway.

Speculative fiction would encompass sci-fi and fantasy and their subgenres. Unless he says no sci-fi somewhere, i'd assume that would be fine because he said spec-fic

I know FinePrint has to update their website -- but does anyone know what Brooks's likes/dislikes are beyond the genres listed on the QT site?

So, I asked this question over at AW, too, and someone told Brooks about it. Here's his answer:

Hey guys, Brooks Sherman here. Someone just told me about this thread, and I thought I'd clear up the confusion here myself. Yes, I am definitely open to considering science fiction submissions, and I apologize for any confusion with the term "speculative fiction."

Also, I don't use that term out of a desire to make genre fiction feel somehow less genre. Honestly, I use it because it's a helpful blanket term to show my wide interest in all stories slightly "off" from normal, whether that be science fiction, high fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal mystery, literary horror, etc.

Hope this helps!

Awesome! A new agent to consider! Must...go...research...

Wait, what are his submission guidelines? The one at FinePrint are a tad murky. Do they was just a query letter or query letter + first two chapters in the body if the email?
