I'm currently writing the third novel in a series, and I've developed doubts about the first novel's title, after naming the second, and now the third.

First of all, it's an urban fantasy series, and here's the 25 word log line I used to describe it on Janet Reid's Liz Norris Pay It Forward contest (in which it's a finalist! Wowie!)-

A sorcerer is bent on wiping out shapeshifters, particularly dragons. The FBI's shifters are running out of time to stop him before he kills again.

So there you have it. The novel is titled, at least for now, DRAGON HUNTER.

The second novel is called DEVIL MAY CARE, and the third was just named BLACK SHEEP.

Going back over everything, I think I now want to call the first book RUNNING DOWN THE DRAGON. What does everyone think? Which would you rather read, keeping in mind that they are exactly the same novel?  confused

I like RUNNING DOWN THE DRAGON better. It's not a title I've seen before so I'd be more motivated to pick up the book. Plus it puts a really cool image in my head from the start and leaves me with more questions than Dragon Hunter.

RUn both those titles through Amazon. I'm betting you'll find 15 with Dragon Hunter and none with Running Down The Dragon.

My vote is for Running Down the Dragon as well!
I think it's more catchy AND it fits with the other two much better

Thank you everyone! I think I'll change the title before the next round of queries. But one of the agents I'm querying next is at Janet Reid's agency. Maybe I'll hold the new title in reserve and query him with the old title (since I know he's friendly with her, and might recognize my title as a finalist in her contest). Decisions, decisions...
