Last year an agent invited me to submit any other work I had in the future.

Now I've got a new manuscript but she is closed to queries for that genre for now. Does the invitation trump this, or do I need to wait? She was so close on the other one and I think she will really like this.

Thanks for your help!

Well, I think I would send a query for the new ms along with a little note that says 'I sent you [TITLE] last year and you requested to see other work from me, and although you are closed to this genre, I though you would still be interested in [NEW TITLE].'

Well, maybe you or someone else could write a better little note but you get the idea, right?  wink2

Your note is fine, Carakasla--thanks and karma.

My concern is that asking her now might decrease my chances. I'm an impatient person and thus unsuited for this process. If I had a cooler head, I'd ask it to prevail!  zen

Well, do you know when she'll be open for that genre again? If so, i'd just wait. If not, then i'd go with Carakasla's idea

I'm just lil ole me that knows nothing about querying, but I'd imagine as long as you make it clear she already requested it and that you acknowledge that she is closed for this genre, it should be fine. Maybe make it clear in the letter that you are willing to be patient and wait until the genre opens again. I'm sure she'll be understanding.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. For now I'm keeping her in reserve, in case none of my current requests pan out and/or I get some decent feedback or an R&R.

Look at me with my little strategy and everything!  wink2
