hello all, I am working on an interesting topic for a near future science fiction book and I was wondering if any scifi book portrayed political divide exactly as it is today. You know with the left VS the right wing in politics. Politics and science fiction both intrigue me and I combined the two left vs right and the future in this story I am working on. My theory is that in the future politics will be very much like what it is today, whereas in most scifi I have read or seen. We have one extreme dominating the other. Like Brave New World VS Atlas Shrugged. Now, of course there are strange politics that are completely made up in complete fantasy worlds as well. But, are there any books that brings the politics back down to earth? I'm just wondering if my idea is completely original, because so far I think it is.

I'm pretty sure CJ Cherryh has had several books in which there were powerful political factions working against one another in government. I'm also thinking of another book I read a couple of years ago...I'm totally blanking on the name, but I remember it had something to do with a sentient computer network, and that novel also had competing political parties.
