Former New York detective JORDAN ST. JAMES and her sister leave New York when the bad memories start to outweigh the good ones. They move to a small town in California where an unemployed Jordan helps her new friends using her investigative skills and resources. When one of her neighbors asks her to find her son’s missing dog, she agrees. Believing it to be a simple case, she convinces her younger sister ERIN an unemployed third grade teacher to help.
While searching for the dog they find a freshly dug grave and Jordan believing it may be the dog’s they dig it up but instead of the dog they find a body and when one of the walls starts to cave in they find a second body. The medical examiner’s report on the bodies shows that some of their organs had been removed. Soon after that, they find the dog muzzled and tied to a tree. The cruel treatment of the dog angers the sisters’ who then vow to find the person behind it. They track him to JONAH FRANKLIN one of the town’s doctors’, whose wife was in a three car collision. The crash resulted in severe damage to some of her major organs.
When doctor Franklin and his accomplices realize that Jordan and Erin are getting too close they send someone to slow down their investigation. One night while on her way home Erin is attacked by a knife wielding man wearing a mask and hoodie. For the first time she puts to use the fighting skills her sister taught her and saves herself. The attack enrages both Jordan and Erin making them even more determined to get the evidence needed by the police to put them behind bars.
Not only do they find evidence linking the doctor and his accomplices to the dog but enough evidence connecting them to the disappearances of indigent people living in Los Angeles whose organs they’ve been harvesting. But it’s taking much longer then Franklin expected because he first has to screen each person to find one with at least one healthy organ that he could use which is difficult since so many of them are unhealthy. When the sisters spy two of the doctors men carrying a woman into his house they break in to rescue her.
They trail the woman down to the basement and what they find shocks them to their very core. There find jail cells, operating rooms, and bags of blood stored in some kind of meat locker. Jordan uses her cell phone to take pictures of everything to send to her former partner and ex-lover detective AMANDA POSEY and her partner detective SPENCER JUSTACE in the Sheriff’s department.
Not long after one of the doctor’s accomplices comes down to the basement with the intention of putting an end to the sisters’ and their investigation. Jordan uses her martial arts skills to not only to fight for their lives but also the doctors two prisoners. She manages to knock him out and using his keys they lock him up in one of the cells. They make their way back upstairs where they send the photos.
When the police and several deputies arrive at the house, they go to the master bedroom on the second floor. There they find a replica of an intensive care unit along with the doctor’s wife who is hooked up to machines. After subduing the doctor, they place him under arrest. The sisters’ then join forces with the two detectives in search of one of the suspects who escaped. When they catch up to him, Jordan and Amanda team up to take him down.
Later, Jordan comes up with a theory that a fourth accomplice exists prompting her and Erin to find proof. Now the sheriff’s department, who has been working in conjunction with the police department for almost a year to solve this case, can finally put an end to the fear that the doctor and his accomplices have wrought.
