Scenes from Central America

WWW
« on: April 19, 2012, 01:42:31 PM »

Hi All! Another newbie finding the courage to emerge.  I've been using QT for a year or more, but until now, I had little to contribute.  After a long career in nursing, a three-year adventure living in Central America aboard our sailboat, Lyric, and two years of writing and revisions, I've finally started queries on my first novel JADE SKY. Kudos to all of you who support this community.  I'm happy to be a part of it.  Stats on my queries so far:  6 helpful, personalized rejections, 6 non-responses, and 1 request for a full (YeeeHAA) just two weeks ago.

Welcome!

I know an editor who lives on a sailboat. :-) It sounds like such a great adventure.

Absolutely! The best adventure of our lives.  I learned to take risks, reach for dreams, and repair diesel engines. Hopefully I can turn the experience into great stories that readers love. Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks Falen and Latetotheparty. You both are really helpful to others on the forum.  Glad to finally be "official".  QT has been a lifesaver for me in this process.  LTTP, I know several writers who also attended the Houston Writers' Conference with similar experiences with the agent you mentioned. I'm with you, don't change your story for one agent.

I do have a question for some of the more...ahem..mature members in QT. Exactly how long did it take to train your fingers to stop putting two spaces after each sentence?

Thanks for the encouragement, dsc1! You're good peeps.  Thumbs Up  I think the cat at HWG was there for a check. As for your question, I'm practically gran'pa and I still double space between sentences in my MS but not in email/here. Go figure.  crazy

Welcome!  Glad you chose this harbor.  I hear you on the double spacing  Grin   Let's just say that after two years of steady writing, a 75,000 word manuscript,  a major revision, and a minor revision, I still forget myself.....

Returning your welcome from my post!  So...welcome, =)

I always double-space between sentences!  It's not something I ever even think about o_o

I think it took me probably about one MS a few years ago. Now i don't even think about it. My suggestion is to just keep trying and don't worry about it if you forget because you can always do a find and replace of all the double spaces into single spaces.  Thumbs Up

Thanks swandown for the welcome and the empathy on teaching old fingers new tricks. Falen, you're right...thank God for find/replace. The night before I was due to send out the full, someone mentioned my spacing. eek I researched it on QT forum, found the idea of find/replace (was it yours?) and it was a lifesaver. We all know the feeling of obsessing over our mss.

Man, I can't believe I waited so long to participate.
