I'm starting to picture Quagmire from Family Guy as Christian Grey just to make it more palatable.

Elliot: Hey, bro, just calling to see if you tapped that drunken skag from the bar last night.
Christian:  Not yet!  She's still too wasted to sign the release forms.
Ani:  I think I have a pen in my purse.
Christian: Oh, yeah!  Gigity-gigity-goo!

I read this thread and then went to Yahoo, where I saw this:

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/fifty-shades-blue-selena-gomez-nick-kroll-video-182557207.html

I laughed out loud. As someone who's read the book, this was quite accurate. Notice the intense lip-biting.  Rofl3

I'm on chapter 9 of the recaps and all I can think is...

...how is this garbage laden piece of shit published and not me?!  sad

(Jennifer is amazing, btw, and I totally respect her for that whole name mix up fiasco. People are such assholes.)

If I want a D/s relationship with a bit of BDSM thrown in on the side? I'll watch Secretary.

Someone was reading 50 SHADES DARKER across fromme on the train today. I wanted to grab it out of her hands and thrust a YA novel into her hands. Just about anything is better than that SHADES. *facepalm*

I'm convinced this is a Twilight/Secretary mashup.  But The Secretary was much hotter.

Trust me Bowden,

the most stimulating thing about the sexual scenes in FSOG will be the sensation your fingers get flipping to the pages. And it you're into the BDSM, you might be lucky enough to get a papercut along the way...

Trust me.

Hahahaha!  I read the entire series (I deserve a medal or some heavy drugs at least for that effort) and it was... Honesty, I can't even tell you what I thought under the Bambi Principle: If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I have absolutely nothing nice to say.

And I have read plenty of good BDSM, so it's not a genre thing.

Trends in books, like in fashion, have no rhyme or reason to me. I've seen some crappy styles on people that are all the rage, just like I've read books that have so much WTFery going on, it makes me dizzy. This is such a case.

Ah, if only I could write something that caught fire like that...  Preferably representing the genre a bit better.

Twilight + 9 1/2 weeks. Even the male MC has the same name. Grey/Gray.

And, with a third-less Mormon misogyny subtext of other lite beers--wait, wrong product. Never mind.

Jacqueline Carey's KUSHIEL'S DART, high fantasy, (on a variety of levels). Just saying.

I have not read the book, but someone is blogging it as she goes through.  EG:
http://jenniferarmintrout.blogspot.ca/2012/04/50-shades-of-grey-chapter-5-recap-or.html

She has excerpts in that post, and I'm really not sure what's the appeal, but whatever. The moment was right for this particular book.

I'm late - as always. But I just read this blog and  rofl I haven't laughed this hard in months!!!
Who would have thought that brushing your teeth with someone else's toothbrush is erotic? Holy cow - my husband and I have been missing that all these years!  cry2    (Igitts! The thought is so disgusting!)

Do most people REALLY enjoy reading this stuff?Huh?Huh?Huh??

Literary Fiction: Mystery

Saw Emily Rooney on "Greater Boston" (PBS) featuring a discussion on this book.  She played a recording of herself reading a sex passage from the book, and said, "I can't believe I read that aloud." she looked disgusted with herself. Why would that show even take on such a book, other to banter about why such a badly written book is selling like crazy. that show alone probably boosted the sales as well as any other promotion.

From what I heard read from this book, it's just printed bilge. It smells, but it sells.

i just try to tell myself that more people reading is good for all of us, and if they have to become readers by starting with something crappy, then so be it. It just means our stuff will blow them out of the water  Thumbs Up
