Hi, I just got an email from a small publisher who is interested in publishing my manuscript. This is what she wrote ... It had been my intention to read a small portion yesterday and ended up reading it start to finish because I couldn't put it down.I'm still OMG-ing and can't get the cheesy smile outta my face. My question...I have a partial submission, a totally different manuscript, with an agent. Should I notify the agent if I decide to sign with the small publisher? Thanks for your help. I just feel so clueless bordering into nervous breakdown territory. Is this normal?

My first impulse is to say yes, I think you would want to notify the agent if you're going to sign with the small press. I think the agent would want to know if you're going to have one property tied up that way (my agent was pleased by this, btw) and the agent may be intrigued about this other project enough to want to talk to you about that one too. Also, the agent would probably want to know what the contract looks like for the other small press, in case it ties up your next novel too. (You don't want that kind of clause in there, btw.)
I'm not sure, though. See what others say.

It wouldn't hurt to contact the agent. Worse thing they can do is reject you.
