Hello!  I'm going to post a similar question on the thread about literary agents too.  I have been querying and submitting to publishers since May, and many of them are still out with no responses.  I have had one agent request to read the full, but rejected it in the end, and one agent has a partial of it now.  Since then, I have received some helpful feedback from a few of the agents, and have made some moderately significant changes to my manuscript.  However, the most drastic change was with the opening of the book.  I is a completely different opening to what I have been submitting to the agents and publishers.  My question is, should I contact some of the agents and publishers which I have sent material to and notify them of the changes?  Or should I just suck it up as "too bad, my loss"?  What do you think?

Thank!

If you got a form rejection from an agent/publisher who read your partial or full, (or maybe never responded to a query at all) then you should let it go. You have no idea if they just didn't like the whole thing, your voice, writing style, or whatever, and a revision of the beginning may mean nothing to them. But if they took the time to tell you they didn't like a certain passage, they've opened a line of communication, and I would personally send it back, noting the difference. It may not have been a formal revise/resub request, but they were definitely pointing you in the right direction, and they wouldn't have bothered if they didn't see ANY hope in your work. So, yeah, resub to the helpful editors and agents and forget about the others. Great job, btw! All of this is huge, even if it may not feel that way!!

Alythia B,

Thank you so much! Throughout this process, there have been so many ups and downs.  It has gotten to the point where any type of a personalized rejection gives me warm fuzzies.  Smiley

Have a great day!

As it should!! The next best thing to acceptance is a helpful rejection, in my opinion! Good luck!
