I'd rather be writing...

So I'm one of those crazy people who likes having a title in mind when I write -- even knowing that it'll probably get changed a hundred times between now and then. It does, however, help me get in the right frame of mind to work.

My next project is a ghost story type thing. Yes, it's YA. Here's the quick paragraph pitch. God, it really helps to write a pitch before you even start working on the book!

Inspired by the Enchanted Castle exhibit at Kensington Palace in the UK. Stories have been passed down for generations about the princess who mysteriously disappeared the night she was to elope with her lover. It is said that she met an untimely end, but the mystery of who killed her has never been discovered -- not to mention the princess has never been found. What seems like a boring field trip through yet another boring castle (Ariana wishes she never signed up to spend her spring break wandering through dusty castles in England) takes a turn for the strange when Ariana becomes separated from her tour group. She follows the sound of voices and when she turns the corner, she's greeted like a princess. Gone are her jeans and in their place is a corset and bustle. Ariana has become the lost princess -- and if she's not careful, she'll meet the same end as the real princess unless she can solve the mystery first.

What I need, is a good title. Right now all I can come up with is THE LOST PRINCESS -- which sorta sucks. Especially as this is being planned as either a one or a two book series. There's a lot planned -- it'll depend on how the writing goes!

So, any thoughts?

I'd start with the mechanism that got the princess missing in the first place, like The Heavy-Lidded Box or The Soundproof Room or The Chalice Of Forgetting or whatever.

Titles usually whack me upside the head when I'm writing, but it certainly is easier when you start with one in mind. :-)

The problem is the mechanism that makes her go missing would be the title for book two. *facepalm* Because that's what she really winds up fighting against. X_x

The current thought right now is HAUNTED LEGACY. Opinions?
