I like the "It will appeal to fans..." line. I've been thinking of this myself a lot lately. I think it works if agents ask for it and if you have something difficult to explain in the query or want to show the tone.

I've been thinking on this a lot too. Mine is kinda different, so I think the mashing of two popular shows/movies, may help give the agent a feel for the book. I thought about saying Dark Waters is Dexter meets Splash. Not sure if that would be too weird. And it may make the agent think this is a mermaid novel, which it kinda isn't since these creatures don't just swim. Hum. And there's my dilemma.

Well, i really liked that comparison, but you're right, after reading that i did assume there were mermaids. Bloody, murdering mermaids, which are my favorite kind  Thumbs Up Yes

This made me lol.

I also like the "appeal to fans" line...I think it allows for comparison without actually "comparing", if that makes sense.

I like it too! Maybe I should use it in a couple queries and just see what happens. I can't think of any other show or movie with paranormal creatures from folklore that aren't werewolves or vampires.  embarrassed

My CP says I should call it True Blood Light.  naughty Sans the vampires of course.  wink2

For the first time I've managed to come up with a comparison easily. ALICE IN WONDERLAND meets CORALINE.

Aw yeah. *fistbump*
