Thanks, guys.  Gosh, it's been so long since I'v had a request for a full I don't even know what to say in the cover letter.  The agents wants it sent as an email attachment.  What do I say?

Hi Faye.  Congrats.  How exciting.

If the request for the full came via email, I always attached my full in a reply to their request so that they could verify that they did, in fact, request the full.  I changed the subject line to say REQUESTED MATERIAL: genre/TITLE

Dear Mr/Ms. [name]:

Thank you for your interest in my [genre] novel, [TITLE].  Attached below, please find the requested full manuscript.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

[Your Name
Your full address
Your phone number
Your email address]

(Note:  Since it is a reply, their original request will be here, below the letter.)

Thanks, Maryl.

I'm actually quite a bit more excited to just have something to post on the success page than I am about the actual request.  The agent didn't sound all that enthusiastic.

Thanks, Maryl.

I'm actually quite a bit more excited to just have something to post on the success page than I am about the actual request.  The agent didn't sound all that enthusiastic.

Was the request based on your query or had the agent already read a sample of your work? I'm finding they don't offer much enthusiasm on the queries ( although it's still a thrill so relish that!) but they get a little warmer and fuzzier if they've read a bit and then they want more.

Either way, you're in the door, so relax and know you're doing something right!  Cheers! cheer Dancing Banana cheer Dancing Banana cheer
