Literary Fiction: Mystery

Hi,

I found your webpage on line and wanted you to know that I Fed-exed my manuscript to you yesterday and you should be receiving it today.

My novel, IT TAKES TWO, is a love story about TWO high-school students who live in the TWIN cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in Minnesota. Janice, who has TWO sisters, lives in Minneapolis. Chuckie, who has TWO brothers, lives in Saint Paul. In the summertime, each of the lovers swims TWO minutes to meet one another on an island TWO miles long in the middle of the Mississippi River.

One summer day, Janet arrives on the island at TWO o'clock, the agreed time, but Chuckie does not show up. She waits for TWO hours before dialing 9-2 on her cellphone instead of 911 , mindful that 1 plus 1 equals 2. She gets no response. Ever hopeful and ever loyal, she remains on the island for TWO years until TWO young men happen ashore. Both of them fall in love with Janice immediately. Just when she has made up her mind which one to pick, they decide that she had taken TWO long, and they swim away. Fortunately for Janice, the next visitor is a pair (TWO) of grief counselors. After talking to them, Janice's life will never be the same.

Please fax me a contract for representation. I look forward to hearing from you.

That may just be the funniest and most depressing thing I've ever heard. Wow.

lol

I read it twice.

And that completes it all.  The only thing that would have made it better was if you said "I read it TWICE." lol

That's what the editors are for.

When I first read this, I didn't realize it was in Worst Queries, so I was like you have got to be kidding me.  Which you were.  LOL.  Wow... I'm just that tired.  It should be illegal to surf the web on like no sleep. Grin  But yeah.  Awesome query.  I love how two grief counselors just happen on the isle at the same time.  It's genius! I guess I should post this in the Success Stories forum, but I think this will do. Every TWO weeks since sending this query to TWO thousand agents, I get request for TWO chapters from TWO hundred agents. TWO agents have followed up with requests for fulls.

I don't grant anybody exclusives because I can't see limiting myself when there is so much interest out there.  Thank you all for your encouragement.

Success!  Two publishers, including Doubleday, are going to publish this novel on February 2 next year. Two awards are already pending, the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Thanks to all of you here on Query Tracker for your inspiring comments on my query.
