Please forgive me in advance if I am posting this in the wrong place! I write 'guided writing journals' and I am wanting to entice a literary agent of my own. My problem is I cannot seem to find an agent that specializes in writing journals. I want an agent but do I need one? I am hoping that someone out there would represent me but not sure if there are any out there that would be interested in something such as a writing journal full of prompts. Please point me in the right direction if you have a clue, I'm new and about ready to pull my hair out!

I'm not really familiar with non fiction literary agents, but hopefully someone on the boards is. Good luck on your journey. Sounds like a cool idea.

Oh thank you so much! Journaling is an obsessive passion for me and I'm always looking for creative new ways to bring out people's innermost thoughts. I hope there is someone out there for me! I am so excited (can you tell!) to be on the board and looking forward to meeting everyone here and learning more about what you all write! Brandy

Hi Private Pen. I'm also a NF guy. Perhaps it would be helpful to others (at least it would be to me) to describe 'guided writing journals'. I googled it and didn't get too far. But I'm not really in the writing business so what do I know? Did you introduce youself on the Welcome thread? I gave you your 1st karma! newday11

Hi NewDay... what's a Karma? No, I need to go introduce myself.. just haven't made it over there yet! Will probably do that on Monday! Well, you probably already know what a writing journal is.. it is basically a book full of lines that you fill with your thoughts etc. A guided journal is a writing journal with writing prompts. I am finishing up a series of 'Memory Books' of sorts that provide the writer with prompts to help them remember and record all the little things about a lost loved one that they do not want to forget. Does that make sense?
And to answer the other question, I have not done a proposal just yet. I am new to the whole thing. I know how to write, I know what I WANT to write and I know (for the most part) how to typeset my manuscripts. However, I do not know how to get everything rolled up and taken care of once it is written. I have researched and all signs point to finding a literary agent. I am open to any and all advice and I appreciate how nice everyone around here is!!!

See the karma 2 points under your newbie one star? Other Qters can give you karma points for whatever reason. You can give karma in a little while. What is karma: you decide! newday11

Just to share, I got an email from another writer that suggested that though there may be no agents specifically representing 'guided' journals that I might try the broader genre. For example, if the journal I write is catered more to a 'married' couple I might try finding an agent who represents works in family/relationships etc. Just tossing that information out there just in case it is useful to anyone else!!
