So, if I wanted to write something vaguely 'Seuss-like' in nature (silly rhyming nonsense...) would the company also illustrate my book after they have accepted it?  Or are you supposed to actually already have it illustrated when you submit it for review/query?  This question just popped into my head.   crazy

Unless you are an artist, you submit picture books words only.  Even if you are an artist, a larger house and even most smaller ones probably won't use your art work.  My friend said that when she first started writing picture books, the publisher would assign illustrators with experience and reputation to her books so that librarians would recognize one of the pair.  Now that she has a following of her own, she is sometimes paired with newer or debut illustrators for the same reason. 

Seems messed up, doesn't it, to not dictate the illustrations for your own book.
