Do you have a Mary Sue character in your book?  A Mary Sue is a character that is all-cliche, or too good to be true.  Wiki has a better definition here

Anyway, here is a fun little test you can do to find out if your main character is a Mary Sue.  http://www.ponylandpress.com/ms-test.html.  You might be surprised.

My MC scored a 41.  Cry  Not the worst, but could be a lot better.

This site is great, and just reading it will help you avoid putting one of those cliched characters in your novel.  Funny, too!

My score was 115.  sad  This may explain at least one of my problems. Now I have to find a new name for my main character. I thinking maybe Mary Ann.

This can be fun to do with characters in books you've read.  Some things don't apply because they are quesions for the author, but I think you can still get a pretty accurate measure.

I want to make an MC that is a sexy ninja vampire assassin with a talking snow monkey familiar, who is the last practitioner of Hagake-ryu ninjutsu and dies in his lover's arms while saving her life from his mortal enemy.  I wonder what that would score...

11-20 points: The Non-Sue. Your character is a well-developed, balanced person, and is almost certainly not a Mary Sue. Congratulations!

20 was my score.
