I can't even get excited about a request for a full read (I got one today). In fact, I feel kind of depressed---expecting a rejection eventually.

Also got two rejections today.

Coll Huh?

Look at it this way.  Every full you get is a 50/50 shot at getting an agent.  Either they're going to take it, or they're going to reject it.  But either way, your odds shot way up from the query stage.  That's something!

I know what you mean, Coll. Battle fatigue, I think it is. It's also self-preservation. No point getting excited...just hold steady.

I know exactly what you mean.  The first time I got a request I was literally jumping up and down screaming.  I still get excited, but basically I just print and send and forget for large amounts of time how many I have out.  But still, a request is AWESOME!!! and you should let yourself get a little excited.  Here I'll do it for you for now.

Congrats!!!!!!!

so sorry coll - but you are right, at least it was fast, i hate waiting on something for a month (my full) and then getting the rejection, cause the longer it goes the longer you think...ooo, maybe!  here's some feel better karma coming your way!

Daniel Lazar is such a cool guy. After a couple of drinks, I got up the nerve to ask him exactly why he passed. He went into great detail and I'm already thinking of ways to revise.

And, he immediately responded.

God, I wish he had signed me. He is so cool. He kind of said, for my story, the bar is set at The Lovely Bones, and for me to be successful in execution, I have to do even better.

 Tough goals.

  Coll

Since I'm already in my personal tavern, maybe I'll head over to Quills.

Ah, I missed this post amongst the 6th anniversary avalanche of posts.

I also echo all condolences.  A good experience, though, no?  I also impressed dream agent with my first novel - at least enough for her to ask me to send my new one as sson as it's done.  The dialogue, conducted through a few emails, has been quite a motivator.  Hopefull you can channel your meeting with Mr. Lazar into the same take-no-prisoners energy!

Bummer Coll.  Sorry I didn't make it in time to congratulate you, but it's like ripping off a bandaid right? Hope you feel better!

I'd be proud he even asked. I don't think he does much requesting. Had he read the partial first? My new thing is to never get excited unless they request the full after the partial. And the stats. If they do a lot of requesting, I barely think about it.

So I'm empathizing a lot more with you now, coll.  I'm in the same boat today.
