Ways I avoid writing my novel.

1. Checking message boards
2. Making dumb lists on message boards
3. Updating my blog
4. Napping
6.
etc...

Here are a few for starters

1. Adding to procrastination lists.

2. Editing and re-editing the piece I am querying rather than work on new stuff. (That is what I'm doing right now in addition to getting my posts up.)

3. Posting on a message board so you can get an avatar so that when you waste time there's a funny little picture to decorate your blather.

I let my kids take care of that for me.  I still have over 100,000 on my WIP (forgive the little brag there.  Don't worry, they're not good words.)  This forum is turning into quite the undertaking, too.  Not that I don't enjoy it Grin

I have a rough time just getting myself to sit down.  I want to write, but there seems to be so much other stuff that I need to do.  I don't know how to fight that.

If you are looking for motivation, here is the book for you.  The War of Art was written by one of my favorite authors.  He wrote, among others, The Legend of Bagger Vance, and Gates of Fire (An account of the 300 Spartans, but better than the movie, historically accurate, and without all the guys in underwear.)

Anyway, I already wrote a review for it here, so I won't repeat myself now.

I know Lotheus also has a copy and he continues to read through it on a regular basis for the inspiration it provides.

I highly recommend the War of Art.  It really drills into you what it takes to do this for real and not pretend at it.  Go pro, people!

my procrastinations are:
1. solitaire (addicted)
2. myspace (dangerously addicted--hey, I'm a teen, I can be a myspace junkie all I want wag)
