I spent today writing and querying. After sending out a slew of targeted queries (and spending loads of time reading the agency websites, client lists, sold books, etc), I received a response back from the very last query I sent out. A request for a partial with exclusivity. I've never had anyone ask for an exclusive on a partial--just fulls. Is this odd? Another agent still has a partial and an editor has a full. Wonder if that will be a problem.

OMG! Congrats!!!! I just wanted to be the first one...I really have no advice on the exclusivity. You just sent out a bunch of queries? Hmm...I dunno if I would give it..

well, you technically can't give exclusivity just yet, as it is already out - but you can always thank them, let them know other agents currently are looking at it and see if they would like to look at it anyways - I don't think it would be a good idea to send it without letting them know it's with other agents at the moment, as it wouldn't be exclusive got a little redundant there didn't I? In any case Congrats!!! Requests are always awesome!!!

Congratulations Coll!!!
What a thrill to tell this agent that he/she isn't the only one interested in reviewing a partial or full! Under normal circumstances, saying this might be seen tooting your own horn and bragging! But you must!! because he/she asked!!

Oh, she's a curmudgeon, that Lannie. Hey, Coll..PM me! I want to know who asked. I have my suspicions. I'll tell you about my "exclusive" experiences. Yuck. Hate them.

Hey Coll - Way to go!
And my two cents says I'd also decline an exclusive on a partial. On a full? Maybe (depending on duration). But on a partial?
Never.

Congrats coll! And, I'd say no way on exclusivity for a partial. Abi
