Sorry it took me so long to respond to such an easy question but you can guess who gets first crack at the lap top in this family. I'm still anticipating when I'll send out a query while MrsV is beating them off with a stick.  hmm

 Grin

But anyway, I'm currently writing a middle grade detective novel. I just got finished writing a long conspiracy theory fiction book but it was a real mess in my opinion. I liked the characters a lot. It gave me some practice. After I finish the MG book I'm going to start a new police fiction starring characters from that first mess. I figure, who knows, may be some day I'll be able to salvage the pieces from before with established characters.

Plus I'm a little busy right now trying to let MrsV know how proud I am that by the middle of this week she should be announcing the agent that she is signing with. So in between writing and watching TVonDVD- I'm doing a lot of jumping around and yelling (which is something to behold while my foot's in a cast). We're both very excited to be moving forward with the Hollow. And I know that Jess is thrilled to have been able to share it with all of you. It's very hard to share this struggle with family or friends who don't understand what it means to try and write a good query letter or find an agent. We can't wait to be celebrating with the next QTer to do that and the next and the next.

MisterV!  How are you tonight?  Smiley  You are right, it is wonderful to have such a great group of people to share all this mess with Smiley  My husband looks at me like I have 2 heads whenever I start talking "writing" - doesn't have a clue and doesn't want to Smiley  And we've had so much fun watching Jess with her success (this also earned me a "you're crazy  crazy " look when I started screaming and clapping at the computer when Jess announced her first offer  Grin

I so know what you mean about sharing with people who understand.  These forums have been a godsend, since I've been unable to find a writer's group in my area.  It was so amazing when I first started posting and getting responses from people who knew exactly what I was going through.  I don't share my writing with my family, so I've really appreciated the support I've found here.  You are lucky to be a writing couple!

It is so true isn't it?!  My very immediate family of course knows that I write...but beyond that...mums the word.  But of course my hubby and two kids don't have a clue...and my sister is way too busy with her life to be interested in my writing...unless of course it is to roll her eyes and make snide remarks from time to time.  But has she bothered to read anything...NO!  So, I don't really discuss it with her.  It is great to have QT!

I have to agree. I've found a few in the neighborhood (hiding under rocks). I do have the support of my two online crit groups. Having this network has certainly saved my sanity (or whatever sanity I have). My friends/family etc. know all about my efforts and have kind of gotten used to it, but if i talk to long about it, their eyes glaze over.

I hope JV's great fortune rubs off on you! I'm sure she's right beside you, cheering you on. Careful on the foot (leg?).

It is nice to have someone in your corner telling you that your work is good.  I know it means a lot to me, even if it isn't true.

I don't share my writing or related trials and tribulations with much of anyone at all offline. I told my mother that I had finished a novel, and I was sending queries to agents to see if one of them might want to pick it up. There was a pause, then she said, "well, that's not going to give you any kind of regular paycheck." I agreed, it probably wouldn't, at least not for quite a while. (But she was missing the point!) She said something like, "well then," and changed the subject, like she'd put me in my place, she'd triumphed over me, and I was now going to give up this idiotic writing business and go out and get a real job as a cashier or something. Forget about trying to make her understand why I'm excited that someone asked to read 50 pages of the novel.

That's why it's great to have people who do understand and who can jump up and down with me.  Jumper Jumper Hooray Hooray Hooray Jumper yahooo Party Crowd

I'm jumping!

I told my husband about my blog and he read it then said, "how come you misspelled words?", (I was doing creative, stream of conscious writing) "did you change tense?" and "do editors ever read writer's blogs and form opinions about their writing?"  It made me feel so self conscious I deleted the post and nearly shut the blog down.

That's why I haven't let him read my work.  I haven't hidden it from him, he and my kids could access it on the laptop, but I don't ask him to and don't bring it up much.  I have to say he's been supportive in his way.  He's okay with me getting away to write and he paid for a writing conference for my bday.  But it's just a whole world that is foreign to him.

I guess mostly I just don't want to be laughed at.  I want a professional to validate my writing, then it won't matter what anyone else thinks.  I'm not in it for the money, thankfully.  But it has been my life's dream to be a published writer.  So I keep plugging away, working in isolation and sharing with you, my comrades.

Loth, I don't need to read it to know your work is good. Everyone here is doing good things. Sometimes it probably could use some refining but I have read some books that made me cringe that a manuscript like that could be published before mine. If you can finish a book you are already holding good work in your hands.

Wow karatebum, you just reminded me of what a softy I am. There's nothing wrong with having a day job but believe me, I will do a back flip when someone asks for 50 pages of my work. That's celebration worthy to me and Mrs. V. clap clap
