Need help with your query letters? You are encouraged to post your query letters here so others can help you.
Posters:
1. Do not include any private information in your letters (ie name, address, email etc.).
2. If you feel it is necessary, you may remove information which you want to keep 'secret', such as titles or key plot points. But I suggest you do not remove too much or it could greatly hinder the amount of help you can receive.
3. Be prepared, you may hear something you don't like. Take all criticisms as constructive remarks.
4. You don't have to listen to everyone who reviews your query. But if you get many responses saying the same thing, then you should seriously consider it.
While we don't have an official rule about it, we are a collaborative community and thus encourage anyone who posts their work to return the favor and review the works of others. Those reviewing the work of others generally receive more and better reviews of their own work.
Reviewers:
1. Be kind, but firm.
2. Your critiques should concentrate on the following areas:
a. Content. Does the letter tell enough about the story? Does it cover the key points? Does it wander off in the wrong direction?
b. Hook. Is there something about this letter which grabs the reader and makes him/her want more?
c. Does the letter contain all the required information (book title, length, etc.)
d. Grammar, spelling and typos.
3. Don't just criticize, offer suggestions for improvement.
4. If it's good, say so.

This is not a forum that welcomes posts by anyone taking pride in being an "S.O.B" and deliberately posting query reviews in that spirit.

Oh my gosh, I am already in love with you, Aiala, MaryL and pandysmum!  I just posted an innocent question on AW, and I quickly found myself pulled into a philosophical discussion/crucifixion that is nearly the straw that broke this AWer's back. Think I will definitely post my query for review over HERE instead... |

Thanks, MaryL, and I really love your cover. And you're right, I definitely shouldn't make generalizations, as I have encountered MANY incredible folks over there who continuously brighten my day. For the most part, AW has been a fantastic resource; there have just been a few bad apples, but I shouldn't let that bring down the whole ship for me. (Think I wrote that post in a fit of fury over one particular user's comments lately!)  |
