THANK YOU guys for the congrats!! I'm soooooo happy that I can finally share this news. It's been an exciting month! Now, on to the questions...
The Offer: On Wednesday, Feb. 27th, I got a call from Rachel telling me she had sent the book to an editor on Tuesday who read it overnight, and made the first offer on it. She then sent it to about eight other editors by the end of the day, and we started hearing things back from them on Friday, the 29th. There was significant interest from several of the editors, so she decided to set up an auction.
The Auction: Was set for Tuesday, March 4th. And yeah, I didn't sleep AT ALL the night before. I had a bazillion questions for Rachel, so I googled to find out what I could on my own, then contacted her with the remaining questions. I learned that the auction would be taking place in NY (pretty much via her office), it would be for three books, I didn't have to be there, and basically she had set a time limit for everyone to get their 'best bids' to her.
The Results: By noon, I had talked with Rachel and she gave me the fantastic news that Simon and Schuster were the winning bidders. I talked to my fabulous editor for the first time on that Friday, and the rest is history!
Overall, everything happened super, super quick. It was a bit of a whirlwind, and I think my head is still spinning! We've also sold foreign right to Brazil and Indonesia, and even had our first review for the book 'leaked.'
Thanks again for the congrats guys! I really appreciate it. Can't wait to share in the next success story!!!
