Karma is a way to show appreciation of another, be it for a good critique, wise advice, or maybe they just made you laugh.  You may give karma to others after you have made a minimum of five posts.  This is to keep people from making new accounts just to give themselves karma.  Who would do that, you ask?  Well, we have quite a few karma addicts around here, and there is no telling what they would do for their next fix.

You can also "smite" people, which takes away karma, but we don't do that very often (or do we?  Evil)

After you reach five posts, you will see two links below each persons screen name, "applaud" and "smite".  Applaud gives karma and smite takes it away.

Now I will give you some karma for asking about karma.   Grin

Too funny!  Karma at work, it works on so many levels!  And I really like your excerpt -- sounds to me like Jay-Bo is in for one hell of a nasty surprise ere long!  Karma for Karma!   Grin Grin

Okay, I also got a question...

What does karma do? Is karma only a way of designating status on the forum? Like, right now I'm a Jr. member. Is that because I have a certain amount of karma?

Nope, that's all about posts.  Karma is basically just there to make you feel good!  You can give someone karma to let them know you thought their joke was funny or for getting an agent or sending out their first query or taking away the sting of the first rejection....anything!

And here, my kids tell me nobody smites anymore. Can't wait to polish off that threat!
