I've been reading about various writers using programs other than Microsoft Word. I have tried OpenOffice and I really like the look and feel.  I was wondering if any of you have any experience with these programs, and if they are really an improvement.   Huh?

Yes, I think I can write my way out of a paper bag.  But, why?  It is warm and safe in here, and I have snacks!

I write and plan out my books on Write It Now software, then export it to Open Office!  I love open office, its free and easy to use and you can save everything as .doc files!

I use yWriter5, which is pretty similar to Kimmy's Write It Now software but free.  wink2

I love Scrivener, but it's one of those programs that you either love or hate. It's traditionally a Mac program but is soon to find its way onto Windows. But, it's a $45 investment.
