I've been querying a commercial fiction project and think my query for that is in good shape (time will tell).  But I've got another entirely different project I want to start sending queries out for, but I'm uncertain how to form the query. The project is humorous essays...my best explanation would be David Sedaris meets Erma Bombeck.  So is that fiction or non-fiction?  Most of the stories are based in fact but exaggerated for humor.  And how the heck should I write a query for it?!
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Check out the back cover copy of both Sedaris's book and the books of Bailey White, and see how they're pitched. That would be my first guess.

Google around and see how they suggest querying narrative non-fiction.  And by all means, make the query itself humorous.

Great ideas--thank you!  Will start reading the back of my Sedaris books now.  Sometimes the most obvious answers are the toughest ones to come up with.  :-)

If you have exaggerated your stories significantly, it might be easier to pitch the collection as fiction--as you won't need to worry about creating a writing platform that way.  (If you're a first-time author, it might be easier to sell your stories as fiction as well.)  Something to consider, anyway...  embarrassed2
