@JenAlbin: Noooo! I guess the flashplayer thing is a problem.  Most of the people on twitter or FB who've looked at it have been able to. I've also been tinkering with it nonstop so maybe it was still in the works when you clicked on it.

The only problem is the website company is flash only! Now what? *scratches head*

Anyone else having problems with it?
Sorry for the thread hijack!

Elana, I don't know what rock I've been living under, but I just got the the second copy of your book today (the one I'm panning to give away on my blog) and just realized you live in UTAH?! I had no idea.

Sorry, you probably think I'm so dumb!  Smiley

@lydia - I really like your website and blog.  And how generous of you to answer medical questions (for characters, not hypochondriacs).  karma for that.  Kool-Aid

Hi Lydia,

I looked at your site (no problem getting on, today, 7/17), and came away very impressed with your one day's work! You've inspired me to just buckle down and make my site already.  I also loved your offer of help with making medical problems suffered by characters seem more real.  Brilliant!   Now I'm racking my brain for some expertise of equal value I could offer.  Hm...........Okay, moving on to expertise of lesser value.  Hmmm.....Okay, I'm going to get back to you when I choose between opening myself up to questions on chocolate arcana or managing the teenage eye-roll.   Thank you for posting!  I'm going to go back and take a second look, but in case the answer isn't obvious: which company did you use to create the site?

Wix.com. I've been blogging for over a year, and I think toying with Blogger made me a lot more adept at designing stuff than I realized. Good luck Swann! So glad you liked my site.  Grin

@dzolidis:   WOW!!   You have been BUSY!  The theatre geek in me swoons.  Oh, to be in junior high again and be able to do some of these plays.  They sound wildly funny.

I can see why your website has helped you develop relationships with the teachers buying the plays, and the kids acting in them, and how the site will continue to work for you as you segue into fiction.

Thank you again for taking the time to share the link.  Good luck on the fiction side of things.  You've got drama covered! wink2

@lydia - your site is awesome! Love your blog idea. It's unique and awesome.  Thumbs Up

@swann - can't wait to see what you do with your site! Maybe you could tie in some library links to connect to your book. Something as simple as posting a link to http://www.publiclibraries.com/ in the static part of your website with the title "Find Your Local Library". That may help people as you build your platform remember, "She supports libraries; oh, yeah, she wrote that book about the library."  Anyway, hope you share your link!

Lydia, awesome site and idea!  I think I might definitely be hitting you up with medical questions for a couple stories at some point!  Hmm, uh, I can offer insight into the madness of Hollywood in return maybe?  LOL, I dunno.  Now you've got me thinking of my areas of expertise, hmm.

Kalen, I'm always happy to answer questions! I've gotten some really interesting ones too. I have them listed on my blog sidebar.

It's the little bit of give-back I have for the wonderfully supportive writing community.  Smiley And yes, if I have a dramatic question, I'll be sure to hit you up!

I just saw this thread.  I built myself a gorgeous Wix website, which I adored.  And then I deleted it.  Because the flash thing is really a problem in the new iPad world.  (Apple currently has no plans to make ipads or iphones run flash.)

Wix is awesome, but I just didn't want to go to all the trouble of forwarding my domain name to that host, only to find that a growing number of people couldn't see it.

Instead, I'm using squarespace now.  You can have a static site and a blog inside of the one site.  But the learning curve was much steeper than at Wix.  I was in over my head for a few days there.  But now I've got it up and running.

www.sarahpinneo.com

Squarespace is a pay site, at $144 a year.  But what you get for your $ is 24/7 email customer support.  They are endlessly patient with my rookie questions. "How do you make the space between the nav bar and the content smaller?" etc.

Swann,

Joomla is really excellent free open source for web building. I think its pretty easy to use. Here's beginner's info: http://docs.joomla.org/Beginners

Tradergirl - I love your site. It's beautiful!

I'll add that I'm poor and manipulated blogger to create a site and a blog (cost $10).  Not very pretty, but works for now.  You can actually buy a domain and host one bog at www.url.com and then another blog at blog.url.com through blogger!

I'm having one built for me in the fall, but trying to decide if I am doing a book site or an author site...thoughts?
