The agency's founder, attorney Sheldon Fogelman, first entered the world of publishing in 1964 through his counsel to industry luminaries such as Maurice Sendak and Meindert DeJong. Sheldon Fogelman Agency, Inc. became the very first agency to specialize in representing mostly authors and illustrators of children's books, lighting the way for the rest of the children's book publishing industry that has grown up around it. Additionally, Mr. Fogelman continued to act as Maurice Sendak's attorney for over forty years and has represented various publishers with regard to dramatic, motion picture, and television rights, including William Morrow Children's Division.

Thank you for submitting the first three chapters of your young adult novel, X, which I have now had the chance to review and share with my colleagues.

I appreciate the opportunity to review your work, but unfortunately, I do not think that I am the right match for this project. Given my hesitation, I cannot be of assistance in placing your work at this time.

I know this is not the answer you were probably hoping for, but please keep in mind that this is a subjective industry, and someone else may feel very differently. Thank you again for thinking of me in connection with your work, and I wish you the best of luck.

4/26/12 - EQ re: GATSBY
4/27/12 - ER from Sean McCarthy - We enjoyed the wholly original concept behind Gatsby Delaney’s story, but unfortunately we didn’t connect with the main characters as strongly as we would have liked.

Sheldon Fogelman Agency, Inc. specializes in children's books of all genres, from picture books through young adult literature and everything in between. The agency represents both authors and illustrators.

We always welcome submissions, and look forward to adding new people to our client list each year. However, we receive hundreds of submissions, and are very selective in offering representation. We consider each submission carefully, and do our best to respond within 6-8 weeks.
