I'm assuming this is CNR and want to query someone else at Janklow & Nesbit - how long did y'all give it? I'm at 61 days.

There seems to be a lot of chatter wondering if Paul Lucas is closed to queries. If he is, he hasn't let Query Track know.
I sorted out agents closed to queries and Paul Lucas' name still pops up. There's also nothing on his agency site one way or the other.

Followed up with his assistant Eloy today, curious to see if this is a pass or if he's still reading

Liked parts of it, particularly the military sections and the actions scenes. Mentioned that science fantasy is hard to place right now

Dokipen - Who is Hellie? I don't know that it matters, really, but it's still driving me crazy, LOL. I couldn't find an agent on that site with a name anywhere close to that, so I'm guessing it's from another agency?

I decided to email Hellie instead of Paul as she is open to a select amount of debut authors.

Dear [my name]:

Thank you for the opportunity to read your submission. Unfortunately, you have come to us at a time when Paul Lucas is inundated with requests for assistance and representation. The need to allocate his time effectively forces us to decline participation in many worthy projects, and, regretfully, that must be the decision in this case as well.

We are very sorry not to be able to help you with this project but please accept my best wishes for you in your search for representation.

Best regards,
Eloy Bleifuss on behalf of Paul Lucas

I got the same form rejection from the asst as JoLadzinski. It does make it sound like he's closed.

JoLadzinski — That is a truly oddly-worded response. It does read like he’s closed.

It's been 6 weeks, and he's clearly moved past my query in his queue. There are other agents at the agency I want to query, so I'm declaring this a pass.
Good luck everyone!

This form rejection makes it sound like he's closed to queries, and the fact that it was sent from the assistant gives me pause.

Thanks for that info on Brenna. I did see she'd moved on via her Twitter bio, but I hadn't considered she might've taken requests with her, I don't know what agency policy is on that sort of thing. Also don't know if it's appropriate to contact her there since she didn't inform me she was leaving. I guess I'll just let it go and see what happens. Cheers!
