Always verify agent's information before sending your query. Verify the agent's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the agent is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for agent information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the agent's website.

And NEVER give money to an "agent".

Leave comments about your experiences with this literary agent, or read what other authors have to say.

Left the agency and the business altogether.

Apparently she has left the industry all together, at least that is what the letter the agency sent me says.

No. If they leave the agency, do the queries go with them or do they stay at the agency?

Very nice personalized rejection. Said my writing had merits, but the idea didn't particularly grab her. Encouraged me to keep querying because other agents might like it, then made a pun with my title. Overall the nicest rejection I've gotten.

I queried Ms. D'Emic about a prior project of mine in early 2013. About 3 months later, I received a rejection from her assistant. While it was, like any rejection, a bit of a disappointment, I must say that it was one of the most detailed, helpful, and sympathetic turnarounds that I have ever received. The assistant, Ms. Sulaiman, was very nice, and offered advice regarding querying self-published projects (as the manuscript I was pitching at the time had been). She was very kind to let me know that they had considered my manuscript at length, but although they liked the voice, generally did not take on self-published manuscripts.

All in all, it was one of those rejections where you can't help but smile just a little bit, despite the bitter sorrow welling up within you. I am considering querying her again with a different project soon (not self-published this time). Best of luck everyone!

Thought it was a nice rejection until I saw it was exactly the same as the letter from another commenter. Was a form. But at least she responded!

Science Fiction (soft)

I normally don't comment too much in Query Tracker but I wanted to say that I received an incredibly detailed, helpful email response from Sara D'Emic's assistant, Saba Sulaiman, pointing out what they would like me to change and advising me to resubmit after making the changes. This is only my third semi-positive response in a total of 70+ submissions. It was like a ray of sun and I want to offer that glimmer of hope to my fellow aspiring authors. Be tenacious! Persist!

Got a very similar form letter to the one below. Substitute your novel for the name of mine and you pretty much have it.

I read somewhere she was an agent looking for new writers. It would be nice to be judged on writing as opposed to a query letter only. But no one said it would be easy.
