Originally I categorized this manuscript as a contemporary romance, but rebranded it as contemporary women's fiction for this agent. 76k

Authors work hard, and responses, and yes, rejections as well, make me feel alive, as though I am not a character in in my novel, but actually exist. I appreciate Ms. Eth taking the time to make a personal response.

It doesn't sound bad at all - actually rather intriguing - but I'm not taking on much fiction at the moment so don't think I'm well timed to proceed here - sorry.

Definitely personalized, frank and honest, not a form, which is always appreciative, but what's with the typos? And last time I checked, many mainstream houses publish "edgy material." I dunno about this

"Thabjs for writing me but afraid the mainstream houses with whom I primarily work just aren't so inclined to such edgey

20Sept2019 when following the link to Zone Alarm blocked my access to the site and claimed to have intercepted a high-risk virus. I will inform Ms. Eth of this in an email, just in case it's legit.

Very nice response from Ms. Eth confirming something I feared wasn't enough (my social media presence) and confirming something I had my head in the sand about (my writer cred). I responded I appreciated her insight and would heed same and contact her again once I got the last piece in order and she responded "definitely". I'm pretty thrilled with any stranger throwing me a literary bone of advice.

"Though I agree with you that there is s need for White Americans to open up to the institutional injustices which our country is promoting I still worry this is going to be s tough sell to the commercial publishers with whom I work. Your social media presence is obviously fine, but what's missing is any writer's credibility. I think you need to try to publish some pieces first - whether OpEds in
Well- regarded newspapers, articles in established magazines ( sure Atlantic would be great but so would Pacific Standard) or long pieces inline in huffPo or Salon or any number of other places. This seems key to me before taking a next step forward with a book. If you get that piece in place the project would be much more attractive to me- and no doubt others."

EQ 11/4/16--Same day rejection for Diplomatic Immunity. She said my query sounded strong, but since it deals with Canadian politics, she suggested to try Canadian publishers/agents, since she didn't know the market. That's something I'll keep in mind for next year. I'll try her in 2017 with another manuscript.
