queried by e 5/3, hist fict 115K
rejected by e 5/9, personalized:
"You’ve studied with some great people and of course I know these alternative histories have been very popular. But though I don’t often do much in the way of historicals, as chance would have it i’m already working with two. And add to that i’ve got a biography in the works set at the identical time. It all feels a bit too close for me, so I will unfortunately decline knowing this might not be the best decision. Good luck with the book."

Commented on a piece of the query letter, so kinder than most and at least she read it, but no advice on the manuscript

Literary Suspense

ER: 4/12/22 She said she liked the buildup of tension, but didn't find the prose gripping enough to make her read on. I don't know how far she read into my 50 pages. I appreciated her consideration, and feel better after reading arrowauthor's comment that she's nearing the end of her career.

Still, I am so disheartened. I'm losing hope that anyone will ever represent me -- or publish me.

04/05/22 fiction query 97,000-word historical/magical realism
04/05/22 Same day response: rejection, but nice with a nice note that was very much appreciated

"sorry but I just don't think I'm the agent for you here. I'm working with little historically based material, and given that and the fact that I'm at the end of my career while you're at the beginning of yours makes me think you'd be better off with someone eager to develop you over time. Good luck."

No thanks I’m not really doing much in the way of historical material at this time when I’ve trimmed my list.

Felicia responded politely to nudges. Told me she was liking the book and needed more time. When I told her another agent had requested the first 50, she replied two days later saying no thanks.
