Giles responded 8th November, saying "...X is a fantastic character, his voice intriguing, and your writing very engaging..." Wow, so nice and very encouraging. He asked whether I would consider rewriting leaving out the fantasy elements (none of which appear in the first 3 chapters, but are mentioned in the query letter).
I have a full out with another agent so I'll see what happens there. Funny thing is when I started outlining this tale I was also visiting agents blogs/Twitter and gained the impression that historical fiction was a "hard sell" unless fantastical elements were included. Just goes to show you can't please 'em all! I suspect Giles is a great agent to work with though.

Historical Fiction 93K - Not an outright rejection, said he would re-read if I re-wrote based on feedback. Have another agent interested, so not sure I will re-write based on it, however, thought I should put that info here in case it helps anyone else!
Very lovely agent to deal with, so kind and professional. Would definitely re-query if I needed to down the road.
Historical fiction, 95k
I nudged several times to alert them of full manuscript requests, as per their submission guidelines, but I felt like I was hassling them. They could probably cut down on being 'spammed' by persistent queriers like myself, by just sending out a form rejection if something doesn't interest them ;-) Has anyone else had better luck with a response? Going to close this one out at the end of the week.
