Thanks so much for sending along the sample pages. I’m sorry to say, though, that I just wasn’t as completely drawn in by the material as much as I had hoped. What with my reservations, I’d better bow out.

Thanks so much for contacting me, though! I really appreciate it, and wish you the best of luck.

sarahhawley- I have been afraid to nudge too soon, in case she is skipping around. Most of those who queried after me and have had responses were rejections, so I've been overly optimistic and hoping that maybe she filed mine away into a "maybe" category or a "to-be-requested." Or...it's probably in spam :( Interesting that you sent yours on the same day.
Normally I wouldn't nudge on a query except that Andrea does seem to send rejections, not a lot of CNR going on lately. I think I'm going to wait at least 30 days (or until after the holidays), then nudge. Maybe by then I'll have an offer on a partial/full still outstanding, and a good reason to nudge (a girl can dream).

I'm actually in a similar spot with a couple other agents (I seem to have been skipped in their queues), so it feels like a whole batch got swallowed up in the void. I've been paranoid that I screwed up the submission packages and sent the wrong stuff and got auto-deleted, but I don't think that's it. Gmail says sent, so I don't know why I suddenly became invisible!

emwrites - Did you end up nudging? I also submitted on 11/21 and haven't heard back yet. It looks like she hasn't responded to anything sent on the 21st.

emwrites, my response took 14 days just recently. She may be jumping around in her queue a bit. I'd wait a little longer.

I sent Andrea a query on 11/21 and haven't heard anything. I see below that several people who queried her after me have had responses. It's been 17 days, which isn't super long, but it's longer than her average and than others are seeing right now...should I nudge in case she didn't receive it? Looks like that's been an issue for others in the past. Or should I wait a little bit longer, in case I'm in a "maybe" queue or something?

Though it was a form, it was very polite.

I think she would be a fantastic agent! I received a rejection (form), but she was talking about sample pages...further down there is a rejection about not connecting with the topic...maybe she uses a couple of different forms for when she liked the topic, but didn't connect with the pages, or the writing wasn't the problem but the topic...I really appreciate form rejections like this because although she doesn't give detailed feedback, she lets shine through if your query is working or not.

Not heard anything yet, will hold off a bit
justlikethediet - judging from some of the comments below, I reckon you could re-query after a month? Seems like some queries don't arrive at their destination!

Kind and very apologetic form letter.

Dear ____,

Thanks for your query for ______. Unfortunately, though, I'm afraid this project just doesn't sound like the best fit for my list at this point in time. Thanks so much for contacting me, though, and for giving me this opportunity. It is much appreciated, and I'm sorry I"m not the right agent for it. I wish you the very best of luck in your search for representation.

Best,

Andrea

Not sure if this is her new form rejection, or if this "I'm just not the right agent for it" letter is one of the forms she uses aside from the "didn't connect with pages as much as I hoped so I'm bowing out" letter. Either way for those who're querying you know now that she uses different types of form rejection letters.

No response. I'm beginning to think it got eaten by the spam folder, since she seems to reply in under two weeks. Is it too early to nudge, or should I wait until the beginning of December?

Nudged at 68 days after no response; received a nice note saying she hadn't received the initial query, plus a form rejection of the material. All in all, I'm glad I reached out. Better to know than not!
