Always verify agent's information before sending your query. Verify the agent's query preferences, contact information, genres of interest, and if the agent is still open to queries.

Although QueryTracker tries to stay current, it is not always easy. Never trust any single source for agent information (and yes, this includes QueryTracker).

Review the user comments for more information, and always follow exactly what it says on the agent's website.

And NEVER give money to an "agent".

Query Guidelines

Include first 5 pages with your query.

Form letter, but at least she (or her intern) is quick:

Dear [name]:

Thanks so much for sending along the sample pages of Before Before. I’m sorry to say, though, that I just wasn’t as completely drawn in by the material as much as I had hoped. What with my reservations, I’d better bow out.

Thanks so much for contacting me, though! I really appreciate it, and wish you the best of luck.

I got the same friendly form as others. Oddly, I feel a little bit better knowing that it's a form, since I'm less inclined to cast real doubt on the opening pages than I would have been otherwise! Sigh. On to the next. Good luck, everyone!

Very fast & polite, which is appreciated. I thought it was a standard form reject, but was personalized with my name and book title, and some of the other comments show slightly different responses, so it looks like she's not just tossing it back with a backhand swat. Seems like a nice agent.

Still, hard not to appreciate the quick response and slightly unsuccessful attempt at personalization with name/title :) Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the encouragement, Michelle! I received a form rejection yesterday, but I'm not too bummed, because appreciate her speediness in general!

EricaEditor: Sometimes agents read out of order and sometimes they skip queries they are still considering. Not sure if she's one of them. I like to think no news is good news. :)

Everyone else has gotten a response except me, despite me having sent my query before them. I double-checked to see if I sent it to the right place, and I did, and now I'm worried :(
