Title: Should I mention this in a query?
Post by: boxofredpens on August 07, 2020, 11:45:26 AM
I participated in a contest where an editor read the first 20 pages of my manuscript, and after giving me his notes, he said to send him the revision. I’m wondering if that’s something I should mention in my query — he seemed interested in the manuscript and is at a high-profile publishing house, so it would be a great note to add, but maybe he was just being kind and wanted to offer more feedback?! Thank you so much for any advice!!!

Assuming the editor still has it, that's something to mention during your phone call with the agent (or maybe when they make a request) but not in the query. eg, "I've attached the requested manuscript for Awesome Title. Just so you know, an editor at RandomPenguin has it after requesting it in a contest, and if he responds positively, I won't accept an offer before I've notified you."

Congrats, and good luck!

Thank you so much, Tabris! I truly appreciate your advice - that's exactly what I'll do.

Good luck, too!
