Title: When an agent ask who else has the full
Post by: timewellspent on February 20, 2021, 02:30:42 PM
Hello. Some agents ask to let them know if someone else is reading the full. What do you to if they ask which agent is reading? Do you just tell them or is that confidential information? Thank you in advance.

I've never had an agent ask who else is reading a full.

I've had agents ask who else has made an offer, and I think that's fair enough to ask. Some people will tell you not to answer that either, but I feel like if it's a legitimate agent and not Shyster, Flywheel, and Shyster Inc., that only works to your advantage. They also want to know that you're not making up an offer because that kind of thing ends up giving everyone a frowny face.

So, if I ended up with that question, I'd probably reply with alllllmost but not quite the answer. "Thank you so much for your interest in UFOs Come to Pemberley! I've attached the manuscript as you suggested. Eight other agents have currently requested either fulls or partials, and I will be certain to let you know immediately if any of them make an offer. Thank you again, and I hope you find this fits your needs."

I wouldn't notify an agent if new agents request after you've sent the requested manuscript. It's not confidential information, but I don't see how it could possibly help you to give it.
