Title: Writer's Digest's 101 Best Writer Sites
Post by: Patrick on June 19, 2007, 08:47:09 AM
This is a list Writer's Digest does every year.  They list 101 websites for writers, and I think QueryTracker should be on that list.  Don't you?

I'm not sure if they judge sites individually, or just by the number of nominations received, so why take chances?  Lets all send in a nomination.

Send an E-Mail to writersdig@fwpubs.com and nominate QueryTracker.net.

It's easy, all you have to say is:
"I would like to nominate QueryTracker.net for the 101 Best Sites of the Year.  Thank you."

Thank you.

I just sent off an email to them.  If any site deserves to be listed, it is Query Tracker.

Just sent mine.

A note, however: The subject line needs to say '101 best writing sites' or something.  :)

I'd love to contribute here, but I tried the link twice, and my computer freaked out both times. I decided not to chance it again.

Thank you all for helping.

Celce, it is a "mail to" link, and probably won't work unless you have some email software like outllook or thunderbird on your computer.  If you use a website mail service (like hotmail) then you will have to copy and paste it into your email.

Just felt like it'd be a nice idea to bump up this thread on account of the excellent new features & excellent new members who swing through the forum.  A simple plan at work: if Patrick builds it, they will come.  And the more they come, the more Patrick can build and the more useful the data.

Don't just vote - campaign & get others to do so as well!  QT needs everyone.  One day we... um... may even get free t-shirts outta the deal?

Title: Re: Writer's Digest's 101 Best Writer Sites
Post by: justwrite on August 08, 2007, 08:28:37 PM
And I already know who will design them.  :)

No..but I can always email a design to a person who wants to get t-shirts made. Done it tons of times.

Title: Re: Writer's Digest's 101 Best Writer Sites
Post by: Diowe on August 08, 2007, 09:50:24 PM
Yes! T-shirts! And then we all must pledge to wear them to every writing conference/event we attend... that should get your numbers up Patrick, as long as we all also pledge to present ourselves in a favorable light while at said conferences/events.... P.S. justwrite, I haven't forgotten about you. I've just been, gag, working quite frantically at my real job, gag...

Title: Re: Writer's Digest's 101 Best Writer Sites

And catchy mottos in smaller print that say something like "QT: Do you know where your letters are?"

or "Serving future novelists worldwide since this past May!"

or "Betcha' Harvey Klinger & Writers House don't have T-Shirts!"

Yes! T-shirts! And then we all must pledge to wear them to every writing conference/event we attend...
HA! We'd be a QT cult!
And the catchy motto on it should be a quote, or an inside joke, though I don't think there are any of those of this forum thus far?

"QTers do it..."  How do we do it?

...on clean sheets (of paper)?
...with agents who'll have them?

I'll leave you all to decide. I have a conference on September 29th. Actually, Patrick, finding out about all the conferences  and at least sending them a flyer and a few complimentary t-shirts would be GREAT publicity. Or have one of your loyal minions talk about it (with props). I would..if you sent me the talking points.

Man, I wish I would have thought about this when I was at ARCHON. What a great way to approach an agent!
On a side note I was thinking "QTers do it up to six monthes at a time" ;D

There are some good ideas here, I'll have to look into the conferences.

"Qters do it with return envelopes"

I just got my copy of Writer's Digest ( June 2008 ).

QueryTracker.net is listed on page 59 as one of the 101 Best Websites for Writers.

My name wasn't mentioned, but I guess it's a start.

I'll have a little chat with Brian A. Klems, the online managing editor of Writer's Digest,  about this when I see him.

Now really, yoshi97, have you ever known me to joke about anything, anything at all?

Check it out, page 59, in black and white. I wanted a four color full page spread with my name in font size 96, but Writer's Digest must be on some kind of budget or something. I guess it's the best they can do with the limited funds they have to work with.

Just thought I'd let you know that Lindsey Leavitt, one of your success stories, started a special QT thread in Verlakay extolling the virtues of QT and telling people to check out her interview. I'll check back on it and see what kind of response she gets. I was the second post.

Anniversary? How about those T-shirts, Patrick? let's do em!

Lindsey is a very sharp lady. I thought her interview was great.

As for T-shirts, I'd love to, but I don't think the QT budget can handle it.  I did see a "Print on Demand" T-shirt company somewhere, we could look into that.  JW, would you like to take care of that?

I vote for choice (surprise, there):

1) Charter Member QT
2) QT - Now, without pants!
3) I'm a QT
4) I've got an agent - Ask Me How! (with the logo)
5) Who needs TV - I've got QT!

(note:  none of the above, except maybe #4, is meant seriously)(but i do think choice is a good idea)

okay..Duke it out amongst yourselves and call your neighborhood graphic designer on call when there's consensus. (that's me for those of you who didn't know).

Start a new thread Joanie. then we can have a poll.
I like # 4, but I can't wear that yet.  :'(

So you want to do this Patrick?

Yes, Joan, please start a new thread.  Instead of a poll, make it a call for slogan ideas, then after we have collected a few we might have a poll to narrow them down.

I'm just glad I stumbled across this site, or else I would have remained in the dark forever ... and stumbled more.

I haven't found an agent yet, but that's not due to a lack of resources here or a lack of help. It's a learning process, and I'm learning as fast as my marble-sized brain can take in the input.

Patrick, I think you are incredibly awesome for providing this resource and I think the members are a-one for all the help they give out.

Though I am depressed that you did not accept my idea to advertise for Hooters on the site (it really woulda increased hits) I do understand we must maintain a high moral standard. :)

I mean, can't we have a bit of sympathy for someone who lost all their aunts and uncles to a comet millions of years ago?

Being as I am supposedly a dinosaur, doesn't that merit me a place on the endangered species list?

I mean, can't we have a bit of sympathy for someone who lost all their aunts and uncles to a comet millions of years ago?

you're a dinosaur?

So it says on my driver's license ... and my kids remind me daily, lest I forget.

I remember watching Laverne and Shirley as a kid, BEFORE they were running the reruns. Doesw that give ya an idea of how old a dinosaur I am?

And before anyone says it ... my mom MADE me watch it. I wanted to watch CHiPS instead ... but noooooooo.  :wag:

On a serious note, I think the T-shirt idea is an awesome one, and I believe we can find someone decent to do them if we look around. This is the age of the internet ... people talk ... deals are bound to be had. :)

Okay, I watched Laverne and Shirley and Chips. I loved Chips, I had the hugest crush on John. I also remember Starski and Hutch and Dukes of Hazzard from the day. Child of the 70's.

Bet I'm older than all of you children.
Child of the sixties (baby of the fifties).
I barely watched anything in the seventies because I was in college.

So shaddup!  :)

Was this site not on the list last year? I would be so shocked if it wasn't because how I found the site in the first place was back when I was querying my first novel for the first time and an agent's site said If you are only getting rejections, why don't you join a writers' site and see if those folks can clue you in to what you might be doing wrong.

And QueryTracker was listed with AbsoluteWrite and Writers' Digest, so I joined all three, and since the 2nd was too chaotic and the last was too slow, it was here that I made my home. A bit of a Goldilocks and the Three Bears story for me.  ;D

ETA: And what were a couple of the first things I learned here? That over 200k for a word count was insane, and so was opening with a contemplating character and tons of scenery.  :naughty: Oh, and also just as important, my query stank to high heaven.
