Title: A rejection you LOVE doesn't even feel like a rejection!
Post by: dana on February 01, 2011, 10:14:11 AM
This rejection made me feel so GOOD, the fact I was being rejected didn't even bother me!

Hey there Dana,

Thanks so much for giving me a shot at What We Leave Behind.  It only takes five pages to see that Nelda’s a fantastic character—she must be so much fun to work with!—but I’m sorry to say that I wasn’t connecting wholeheartedly with the story she’s starring in, despite its many intriguing qualities, so I ought to step aside, extremely grateful for the opportunity to have seen your writing, and wishing you the best of luck!

Sincerely,

Stephen

Oh wow! That's great, Dana! Personalized Rs are the best kind of Rs you can get.

:woot:  A real letter!  How cool!  Too bad it's a R, but a personalized R is a good sign!

I really fell in love with that agent.  If he could reject me, and make me yearn to send him roses, it might be a GOOD thing he didn't want to sign me.  It could have gotten me in trouble on so many levels.   :rolf:

I know, right? When rejections are like that, can they really count as a rejection? They give you hope and a giddy feeling :)

Dana, although a rejection, at least he loves Nelda.  And it was a personalised rejection, which gives one that little more encouragement and push to get it right as opposed to the norm template rejection which sometime deflates you.  Well done

It's interesting that you're happier about your rejection than you were about someone else's acceptance.

I think somewhere a point has been missed.

No one wants to see another writer led astray by an unsavory agent.  Those people out there who prey on the hopes and dreams of others are indeed repugnant.  Sites like this make it easier for writers to be well informed about what pitfalls exist in the business of writing.

If you are concerned over something that doesn't seem right, perhaps a personal message to that member is a more appropriate way to express it, instead of maligning a query in a public forum--no matter how disguised you tried to make it.  The person who wrote it, and possibly was duped, may be embarrassed by such a display--not to mention the aftermath.  If that person was not able to post their concerns themselves, perhaps getting the name of the agency and having Patrick do some research would be a kinder, gentler way of getting an answer.

Concern is appreciated, and we all should watch each other's backs.  Just keep in mind that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Point well TAKEN gypsy!!!

I'm going to be sure and proceed VERY carefully on these boards now that I understand more about how they work.

And I can better appreciate the need to watch one's back.

Thank you so much.
