Willamette Writers Conference
« on: April 16, 2008, 03:10:18 AM »
I just found out Steven Mancino from JABberwocky will be there. I was thinking I might not attend but I'm holding my breath for the registration to start at the first of May!

*tries to breath* But I soooo want JABberwocky to represent me. And he would be almost the perfect agent--his boss would be even more perfect but fat chance.  :bear:

Meeting agents at a conference is a great way to get the foot in the door.  I might go for one day, but I can't see driving to Portland more than once.  I live in Eugene (110 miles south).  Too far for comfort, too close to justify a hotel room.

Marva, going over what they have on the schedule I think one day would probably cover most of what you want. I didn't think they had that much that appealed. I seriously did consider giving it a pass considering the cost until I saw his name on the list. Since I can stay with friends in Portland, I might stay for the whole thing if I'm attending at all though--and if I can get a pitch with him you can BET I'll attend.  ;D

I met Joshua Bilmes, and all he could do was insult my town.  :'(
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may no spiders fall on your head.

well...he was telling the truth. You can't smite him for that.

He said something like, "Did you see their main street? It was like four blocks! Can you believe it? Four blocks! You blink and you pass right by! And can you believe this convention center? It's right in the middle of a cornfield!"

Like I said, he was right, and I was sitting at a table with authors and agents. (I'm not really sure how that happened--I was sitting, and they all just started sitting around me--unfortunately I was too in awe to say hi) So he knew everyone around him and was just trying to be funny. But after a little bit I started to think...Hey! That's not very nice! *shrug*

LOL That's kind of funny, but not as bad as I was envisioning. I was imagining you giving him a pitch and in the middle he says, "You know, your home town stinks."

To tell you the truth, I'm terrified to go to a writers conference. I'm sure that I won't look cool enough, attractive enough, smart enough, sophisticated enough, grungy enough  -- or something. I prefer being judged on my writing. I don't know but the whole thing gives me the willies.
