Revise & Resubmit and the results
« on: February 29, 2012, 08:40:37 AM »
Hi Folks - I've been lurking, posting off and on, for about 3 years now. I'm not particularly savvy about regularly posting on forums, etc. Nevertheless, I've attained a lot of advice and information from this place. So, I think it is only right to share my experience thus far.

I wrote a novel back in 2010, thinking it was the greatest thing EVAH. Got my dream agent to ask for the full. The Agent rejected it a few weeks later, suggesting some things to make it better. BUT this person didn't offer to reread it. Just a flat out rejection. I replied instantly and asked (begged) that if I were to revise it, would The Agent look at it again. And this person said yes.

Gah! Score one for shameless begging.

So, I started revising and revising... and then an editor who requested the manuscript off a contest said the story felt like the second in a series. I hit the revising brakes. I agreed with the editor. So, I started writing the backstory as book one, all the while thinking that I'd share this new book with my dream agent when it was ready.

Well, 2011 flew by and by October I was ready to send the manuscript off to The Agent. Crazy really. There was no promise this person would still like the concept a year+ later. Nevertheless, the person asked for the full and read it. Then read it again. Then The Agent wrote a super long email suggesting revisions. (I got this email while I was watching True Grit on Netflix. I don't know how the movie ended. If anyone knows, feel free to catch me up.)

But I picked myself back up and began editing. It took me 6 weeks. Then I sent my baby back to The Dream Agent.

This person now wants to set up a phone call.

Holy  :censored: !!!

Thank you, everyone. I'm trying to send out positive energy instead of fretting about this. It's all too easy to worry...

Thanks so much, everyone!!! I will definitely share details, good or bad. (My husband mentioned this morning that it's possible this agent won't offer, that the call will be a detailed R&R. Sighs. I carry enough to self-doubt to support the world and then some. This was not the vote of confidence I needed today.)

Anyway, the call is tonight.

I've been up since 2.30am. This is going to be a looooooooong day.

I dunno, A, that doesn't sound right. Either way, sending waves of calm (not clams)  energy and good wishes your way. Courage!

Well, even if that does happen, that's still a detailed R&R over the phone, which would suggest to me that they'll probably offer if you agree to the R7R

Great point! It's possible the agent will offer, conditional that I make some extra edits. Hm. That does make me feel better. A lot better.

It's still morning? Time is slowing down, I swear it.
