So How Should this Work?
« on: July 18, 2007, 09:15:56 PM »
OK, so we have this idea to do more community fiction.  But how exactly should we go about it?

Some options are:
Anyone can start a story and others can add on to it, in which case we could have several going at once, or we can have only one story going at a time? What do you think?

We could also keep it open for anyone to add the next piece, or have the previous poster "hand off" the ball to a specific person, then that person has to add a part and hand it off to someone else?   Which sounds better?

Or there may be a completely different approach.  Chime in if you have any ideas.

We could have several people write different versions of the next part of the story, then vote for which one to keep?

Oh, the possibilities are endless.

When posting a part of a story we should limit the size, say about 500 words?

Should it be a judged "shoot out" or just for fun?

Think of this as a learning exercise.

I propose we start with wacky hooks (good practice for our query writing efforts).
Wacky hooks are where this group really shines.

Then we can select a hook we like and start writing. I think the focus should be on constructing strong (yet preposterous) beginnings.
Who knows where it will take us? Can fifty people author a book?  ;D

I like that idea.  Any others?

AHAHAHAHA
My friends and I do this all the time...
I think it's a brilliant idea to start one on here.

I vote for this way. But I have a question. How do you all spare the time for writing fake stories? I can't seem to get my own mess written.

To justify it, you have to consider it training.  You could learn loads from doing this sort of thing (at least that is what you have to keep telling yourself.)  But, really, the more you write the better you get, so why pass up a chance?

Is this a dead issue, or was someone going to start with a preposterous hook to add to our list, so we can choose which to use?  Consider this thread reanimated!
