Day before the deadline, and still waiting...
« on: May 05, 2014, 07:03:26 AM »
I got an offer of rep last week, and notified the two agents still reading that I needed to make a decision by the 6th (tomorrow). I got emails from both of them confirming that they would absolutely get back to me by then, and another follow up from one telling me she was loving my manuscript so far, but nothing since.

Should I follow up today, or just wait and see? My big fear is that one or both of them will offer tonight or tomorrow, and there won't be time for phone calls or whatnot before I have to make a decision. Of course, if neither offers, the decision is simple ;).

I guess it depends. Are you hoping one of them will offer so you can accept them instead of the offering agent?
Or are you perfectly happy accepting the offering agent if they don't get back to you?

If it's the latter, don't follow up with them.

Thanks for the reply! The answer is... I don't really know.

The offering agent is newer, but she's with a great agency and she's sold a very nice number of projects in the past year and a half, several to the big six. Her ideas concerning the manuscript are very much in keeping with mine, and her revisions are pretty minimal.

The other two are also great agents, and they've been in business for much, much longer, which is a plus. My main concern about one of them is that she has a VERY full list, and I worry that she might not really have time for me. On the other hand, this particular agent is a phenom at selling foreign rights, has been at it forever, and has a great reputation. The third agent is somewhere between the two in terms of experience, but she reps a couple of bestsellers in my genre as well.

So in short, it would really depend on what they said in the phone call.

If that's the case, then i wouldn't nudge them. If they don't get back to you in a timely manner, then they probably weren't the agent for you, you know? They should be excited. And yes, i know that sometimes things come up, but there you have.

Just my .02 anyway. I don't think there's a wrong decision here

Thanks again, Falen. This is what I've been thinking as well.

It's sort of a relief that I can't really make a bad choice, but I'm still eager to finalize everything!

Oh definitely! When you get down to it, you just want to make your decision so you can move forward. I've certainly been there

Sounds rather that way, doesn't it  ;D.

Agent #2 just sent a polite step-aside (said it would have been an R&R for her), so I just have to wait on agent #3 and then I'm good to go.
