Support group needed
« on: May 09, 2014, 09:04:09 PM »
Hello everyone, I am Amanda and I am a rejected wannabe writer.
I joined the QT group today because the two rejections I rec'd from my partials devastated me and I need a support group!

I wrote a Regency Romance and sent out a truck load of query letters and rec'd two request for partials. I thought I had hit the big time. I even had dreams of it becoming a movie. Not only did I receive a rejection but it didn't give me any specific reason other than they couldn't connect to it, so I don't know what is wrong with it.
I've decided to shelf it and work on a YA-SciFi.

I'm happy to join the group here and hopefully stop crying over the rejections!  :(

Hi, Amanda. I wrote three full-length novels before I got an agent. I actually shelved the first one right away after only a few rejections, wrote the sequel to learn how to write commercial fiction without ever querying it, and then wrote the one that sold.

It's a long process. Very long and often heartbreaking. But hang in there. Stick with it long enough, and you'll get there. Almost every single one of the QTers I started here with have sold--many have multiple published books. Leah, Scott, Bethany, Cole, Michelle, Elena, Jessica, Lisa, Carolyn, Jane, to name a few of the original crew. It didn't happen right away. It took time and loads of support and cheerleading.

Glad you are here. Welcome to the boards.

Hello, Amanda! It's hard but just keep at it. You'll get there. BTW, ditto Mooky's comment.  :)
Life is like a book. Some chapters are sad, some happy, some exciting. But if you never turn the page... you will never know what the next chapter holds.

Hi and welcome!

I want to second what Mary said. It was novel number 5 that landed me my agent (the third novel i queried) which meant there were years and years of "not for me" rejections on full requests. You just have to keep your head down and keep going!

I also have a good friend who self-publishes her regency romance (which, as i understand it, can be a hard sell right now) so yay for regency!

Hi Amanda...   the great thing about this board and these people is that we're not above telling you if somersetting is utterly garbage, but if we do, we will do it with a Humungous helping of tact.  You can count on good reviews from people who aren't trying to pat each other on the back and be recognized as masters of the literary word.

Good to meet you.  looking forward to helping or receiving help from you.

Thanks for all the kind words. It definitely helps knowing I am not alone in this. I'll just keep writing. Thanks again for the support.
