Not to look like a novice (although it is pretty well self-evident) what is FenCom.

I know what Comcom is.

Here is a link to the FenCon website.

http://www.fencon.org/

FenCon is a small to mid-sized Science Fiction and Fantasy convention, where literary is a main focus.  They do have gaming as well, so if you like to do that, there will be a portion of the con space set up strictly for that.  Gregory Benford is the Guest of Honor, and Jay Lake is giving a writer's workshop.

Hi Sonya *waves*

I'm thinking about going to FenCon since it's local (to me) and inexpensive.  I went a couple of years ago and had a good time, though I always feel out of place in large crowds.  Are you doing the writer's workshop?

Will you be selling books?  If I do end up going, I'll be sure to stop by.

Hey brimfire :-)

I, too feel out of place in large crowds!  So I am hoping that by 'throwing' a party, it will give me a 'role' to play and I will hopefully feel less out of place!

I was thinking about doing the workshop but haven't signed up yet.  I figured if there was a space open still when I get paid on Friday, that I will take that as a sign :-P  Are you signing up?

Nope. I'm not signing up. I did one a few years back and didn't feel like I got much out of it.  At the time (I don't know if it's changed since then), there wasn't a structure to the workshop and the guest author ran it the way he or she wanted. When I attended, we sat around a table with each writer commenting on the other writer's work.  The guest author commented last, maybe for a minute or two, and didn't really say much specific about most of the manuscripts.  There wasn't really a big problem with this except that I can get the same kind of feedback from a free crit group and I expected more of a paying workshop.  Of course, different authors will run it different ways, so it could be fantastic this year.

I'm still debating whether to go or not.

I have not been to a workshop with Jay Lake, and I don't know if that was who you had before -- but if it's anything like your experience - I agree!

You're debating on whether to go to FenCon?  Well, I hope you do.  It would be nice to see you and actually get to have a conversation with you this time :-D
